#1 - Group Training

This type of training has been classified as having more than five participants and includes many types of classes, including cardio-based classes, indoor cycling, dance-based classes, step classes and boot camps.

Group classes are designed to be effective, motivational sessions for different fitness levels with instructors having leadership techniques that help individuals in their class achieve fitness goals.

#2 - Wearable Technology

Wearable technology includes everything from fitness trackers, smartwatches, heart rate monitors, and GPS tracking devices.

Examples include fitness and activity trackers like those made by Fitbit, Samsung and Apple.

These devices can track heart rate, calories, sitting time, distance, steps and much more. Wearable technology first appeared as a fitness trend in 2016 as the use of technology in fitness became more mainstream.

With technology only set to improve, it can be expected to be a major part of fitness for many years to come.

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) exercise programs involve short bursts of high-intensity bouts of exercise followed by a short period of rest and recovery.

While yoga has been a feature of fitness for a number of years, different forms of yoga such as Power Yoga, Yogilates and yoga in hot environments have been recognised as growing trends for 2019.

Active aging programmes are for aged people and designed to live to help them live actively as they age.

Baby Boomers and their fellow generations are increasing their fitness activities, and facilities are seizing the opportunity to provide more programming and options catered to them.”

This trend ties in with yoga and the aging population we have, with fitness being recognised as an important way to help maintain daily functions. In terms of the cutting edge of technology, Cryotherapy and Infrared Saunas are on the rise with passive recovery methods are another up and coming fitness trend.

Cryotherapy is certainly ramping up and it works by surrounding the body with a cold mist for 1-3 minutes. This is a particular favourite of Olympic athletes and models as it decreases cellular metabolism, inflammation, and pain. Infrared saunas, on the other hand, work by producing steam which provides heat which is then absorbed by the skin’s surface.

The infrared rays apparently penetrate skin tissue and heat the body from the inside out, burning up to 600 calories in 40 minutes.
